Developed more than two hundred years ago by a German physician, Samuel Hahnemann (1755 – 1843), homeopathy is now widely used throughout the world. Many people choose homeopathic medicine and other forms of vibrational medicine as their primary form of treatment and others use it to complement conventional medicine.
Remedies are made from natural substances such as plants, herbs and minerals. Nature provides the cure for most ailments, as indigenous people have known for centuries, simply by observing and attuning to their surroundings. Although some substances used to make homeopathic remedies may be toxic in their natural form, once processed into vibrational medicine, they are completely safe.
Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like treats like” which was first identified by Hippocrates (460-350BC). It works by prescribing a minute dose of a medicine that when given in larger doses could cause the symptoms a sick person experiences. For example, it is known that coffee, a stimulant, can disturb sleep. However, when prescribed as a homeopathic medicine to a person experiencing similar symptoms, it can create the opposite effect and improve disturbed sleeping patterns.
It considers each person as an individual. We are after all, unique. To prescribe the same medicine to every person who suffers from a migraine headache, for example, would not be appropriate. Consider your personal susceptibility to illness and that of your parents; your personality, physical appearance, lifestyle, relationships, passions, family life, challenges, coping mechanisms and so on. All of the above, including the specifics of your physical and emotional symptoms make you unique and are considered in the choosing of your homeopathic prescription.
The medicine treats the person as a whole (“the holistic approach”) rather than treating specific symptoms in isolation. Most people are aware that emotional imbalances such as grief, shock and anger can lead to physical illness, if untreated or suppressed. The opposite is also true in that physical pain can cause depression, anxiety and stress. Homeopathic treatment helps release emotions and physical blockages to restore balance to the body, mind and spirit.
Vibrational medicine as complementary treatment
People often seek assistance from a homeopath when experiencing side effects from conventional drugs. Certain homeopathic remedies support the vital organs – liver, kidneys, lungs, brain, spleen and heart and are prescribed when the patient’s symptoms indicate an imbalance. It is often helpful for example, after chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment when the physical body is often depleted.
It is also used to reduce withdrawal drug effects, which can occur after having taken an allopathic drug for a period of time. It is important to consult your G.P/Consultant before stopping medication.
The following are some examples of conditions for which people seek homeopathic support:
Mental and Emotional imbalances such as grief, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, confusion and uncertainty about life direction.
Physical imbalances such as lethargy, chronic fatigue, rheumatism, arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, heart disease including high cholesterol, migraines, I.B.S, colitis, diverticulitis, allergies, insomnia, hormone imbalances – such as painful periods and a variety of symptoms during menopause and pregnancy.
The consultation process
The homeopathic consultation provides a confidential, safe place, for the patient to talk about his or her health concerns. Many people comment that they feel better for just being able to speak openly in a safe environment.
The initial consultation lasts for 1 to 1½ hours during which Siobhan takes time to thoroughly understand your symptoms and your individuality in order to select the appropriate prescription for you at that time.
In addition to homeopathic remedies/essences, additional advice is generally offered to accelerate your healing process.
Follow up consultations last approximately 45 minutes and are generally held every 3-4 weeks.
Telephone and email support are available in between appointments for which there is no charge.
How long does treatment take?
The course of treatment required depends on the sort of illness you have, how long you have had it and how quickly you respond to treatment. Siobhan’s aim is to help you improve as quickly as possible. However, you must also make a commitment to improving your “well-being”. As a guideline, you may need to see her monthly for three months after which time your follow up consultations are scheduled at longer intervals as your health improves.
